Menaggio is one of the main tourist resorts situate on the western shore of Lake Como. It is of ancient origins and its interesting historical sites can be discovered by following the “Historic Itinerary”, available at the Tourist office. The mountains that surround Menaggio offer wonderful hiking possibilities. the one and a half hour walk from Breglia to “rifugio Menaggio” (1,400m) is without doubt an experience that will satisfy beginners as well as skilled mountaineers for the incomparable view of Lake Como and the surrounding mountains.

The village Breglia (749m), situated in the township of Plesio, can be reached by bus line C13 from Menaggio. The rifugio is the starting point for the difficult “via ferrata” as well as easier paths leading to the top of Monte Grona (1,736m) and to the chapel of Sant’Amate (1,623m) situated on the grassy ridge of Monte Bregagno (2,107m), whose top can be reached in 2hrs, from the rifugio.
